Featured Projects

Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm

The Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm in New Zealand covers 2560 hectares near Gore, South Island.

The Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm has consent for up to 83 turbines at 240 MW capacity, and a maximum turbine height of 145m. Stage 1 includes 10 turbines and a 16km, 33KV transmission line to the Gore Substation.

ElectroNet, under a Design-Build-Deliver model, handled the Stage 1 Electrical Balance of Plant for KDWF, providing design, installation, and commissioning of the 33kV network and substation, including procurement. Subcontractors included New Energy/Drillco for cable laying and Martin Civil for substation civil works. Higgins Contracting and VESTAS, contracted by Tararua Wind Power, worked on roadways, turbine foundations, and installation.

Electronet's site work began in December and finished in June, under budget and without incidents. Collaboration and information sharing among contractors were crucial for successful execution.

Norwood Grid Exit Point Project

Transpower New Zealand Limited contracted Electronet to construct a 220/66/11 kV, 180 MVA, N-1 Grid Exit Point (GXP), in Norwood, located southwest of Christchurch.

Norwood GXP is a robust 220/66/11 kV facility with an N-1 capability and a total capacity of 180MVA. Its implementation involved the strategic division of the 220 kV ISL-LIV Cct 1 (ROX-ISL A line) and the establishment of a bifurcated 220 kV bus system which supports the capacity of Orion’s network in response to escalating load demands.

ElectroNet constructed and commissioned 8 x 220kV bays which included DCB’s, ES, CT’s, buswork etc. The scope also included the construction and commissioning of a full TP control room consisting of DC systems, comms, SCADA and full protection systems. In total the contracting group spent 18,850 hrs building and commissioning NWD substation.

Kaitaia solar farm project

The Kaitaia solar farm project is currently New Zealand’s largest grid-connected solar farm, which was fully commissioned in Jan 2024, is located at Kaitaia in Northland

Lodestone’s Solar Farm has a capacity of 34 MW DC and comprises 61,238 solar photovoltaicpanels. The plant can generate enough renewableelectricity to power over 8000 NewZealand homes.

The ElectroNet Group was a key partner in the Construction and delivery of this multi milliondollar development. The ElectroNet the Contractingteam was a key construction partner.

The efficient delivery of projects, especially those of national importance, are vital to their success. Having these two teams working together on adesign, build, deliver programme enables the Group to do just that.

Our future

The global consumption of energy is growing at an ever-increasing rate. As the Government aims to meet its climate target of net zero emissions by 2050, the demand for electrification in the coming decades is evident.

Significant long-term investment in renewable electricity generation across New Zealand is required to help achieve this goal.

This will provide significant opportunities for our clients and we are committed to partnering them in their future projects. These opportunities make us excited about our future and achieving our vision to become leaders in electrical energy and technology.
