Ben Aynsley

POWER SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN, CONTRACTING

Ben is currently in a highly specialised role as a Power System Technician, but he began his career pathway at ElectroNet as an apprentice electrician 18 years ago.

Throughout his career, featuring a variety of roles, Ben has continued to develop his skills and competencies. He has successfully completed a number of qualifications in his 18-year tenure, and recently became a Chartered Member of Engineering New Zealand (Engineering Technician).

Ben says, “I have been able to fulfil my career ambitions at ElectroNet without having to move to another company. ElectroNet has continued to invest in me through electrical engineering and leadership development and I see my career pathway continuing in this way.”

Skills and Expertise

Logan Clarke

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, ELECTRONET CONSULTING

Logan joined us in early 2019 after completing a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Canterbury (UC), specialising in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

To date he has gained experience in a range of areas but in particular, transmission.

Logan has a strong background in software and programming and has created a significant number of innovative design tools to allow the team to work smarter.

Electrical Safety Team

In my role, I help ensure grid-connected sites are electrically safe—through testing existing systems and designing safe setups for new generation projects.

I joined ElectroNet for the variety and team rotations, which have really helped shape my career path in the power industry.

The culture is supportive, with experienced engineers keen to share their knowledge. Flexible hours and remote options make for great work-life balance.

Project highlights so far include a lightning protection study, an arc flash review, and designing a substation earth grid.

My tip for grads? Be curious and speak up—if there’s something you want to try, ask!

Power Systems Analysis Team

I started at ElectroNet as an intern and now focus on connection studies using PowerFactory to assess new generation impacts on the grid. The graduate programme helped me explore different areas of power engineering and find where I thrive. The scale of projects like Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm drew me in, and it’s exciting to now help deliver cleaner energy. A highlight has been leading connection studies for a large solar plant – it gave me hands-on project experience from start to finish. The team is welcoming and flexible. My advice to future grads: stay curious – there’s a lot to learn here!
